We're getting excited about the upcoming Summer Olympics, but obviously there are currently some issues in Brazil that will need to be addressed over the next couple of months.
In case you missed it, check out SNL veteran Maya Rudolph spoofing impeached Brazilian president Dilma Rousseff from the recent season finale. In this clip, Rousseff assures us that there are only a couple of things left to do: "Get one million poo-poos out of the river, and build all the buildings!"

Charles Barkley SNL 2012: Overall Rating

Barkley seemed out of his element tonight and the writing felt very lazy in general. The only two skits that I feel were above average (Inside the NBA and Lord Windermere) were not because of Charles Barkley. I don't know if it had anything to do with starting late after the NFL playoff games, or if the lackluster music guest dimmed the mood, but I think this episode rarely showed much energy, from Barkley to the regulars. Most disappointing of all is that we did not get a MacIntosh reunion in a Scared Straight skit.
It's been fun though. Thanks to my spam commentators for reading!

This is getting out of hand. This might have been the worst digital short ever. Andy Samberg plays a singer whose songs have confusing lyrics. Barkley barely qualified, with only one line. Now we have another generic pop song from tonight's generic pop singer. Will we get a "Scared Straight" skit or is this the end?

Montage of "porn stars" who have passed away and are being honored at an awards show. Maybe I am overrating Charles Barkley, but I feel like some talent is being wasted tonight. This skit showed just how lazy most of this episode has felt.

I love this character and Jason Sudeikis is great in these skits. Barkley finally loosened up here. "Pinch, pinch!"
(Once again, Barkley was absent for Weekend Update, which is unfortunate. Also, Kelly Clarkson might be my least favorite music guest in a while, and that is saying a lot after some of the ones that have appeared in the last few years.)

Let the live-blogging begin! For this year's episode, I won't be using the the Charles Barkley heads. I'll just give a rating for each skit on a scale of five. Here we go...

Saturday Night Live Sports All-Stars
Like I did for the Charles Barkley Saturday Night Live, I'm going to rate each of these skits out of 5. No Charles Barkley heads.
Maya Rudolph National Anthem (4/5) - Dinosaur Boy was rolling on the ground laughing. It was pretty funny and not so far-fetched actually. Some of these Star Spangled performances get out of hand.
Derek Jeter Monologue (2/5) - I don't usually like the monologues. Except Taylor Swift's was awesome.
Schmit's Gay (2/5) - The 2/5 is only because it was great to see Sandler and Farley. How was this "sports"? Either way, it wasn't really funny.
Peyton Manning | United Way (5/5) - I love Manning. This is funny. Spend time with your kids so Peyton Manning doesn't.
Lebron James | Read to Achieve (3/5) - Lebron isn't half bad here. It's not a great skit.
Yankee Stadium Stories (1/5) - The bread and meatballs was funny.
Mike Tyson | What Up With That (3/5) - Tyson's acting is terrible, his dancing is brilliant.
Michael Jordan | Stuart Smalley (3/5) - It's a classic and all, but I don't know. Maybe we've seen it too much.
Ray Romano | Sportscenter (5/5) - Excellent. I want to watch a full-hour Sportscenter like this.
Peyton Manning | Team Captain (5/5) - Most of the best recent male cast members plus Peyton. A little bit of pee came out.
Derek Jeter's Taco Hole (4/5) - Great Beach Boys parody. Need more Will Ferrell.
Stevie Wonder | Kannon Camera (1/5) - Pretty awful.
Shaquille O'Neal | Spanking (3/5) - Kind of funny, and not dragged out. I pretty much appreciate everything Shaq does.
Charles Barkley | Racist Macgruber (1/5) - Ugh.
Tiger Woods | The Situation Room (1/5) - Not funny.
Harry Caray | World Series (1/5) - I love Harry. I never found these skits funny. Why would I ever want to hear Harry talk about the Braves and Yankees? I'd rather hear the stories he's talking about. That's why we love Harry. His tangents aren't funny, they're awesome.
Game Time with Dave and Greg (5/5) - It's like Starman on crack. I liked this whole episode for the most part.
Hulk Hogan and Mr. T (3/5) - It's a shame that this is only decent because they are so awful at not laughing.
Tom Brady | Carnival (3/5) - You can see him aiming right below the hole.
Chris Farley and Nancy Kerrigan (4/5) - Farley is great.
Synchronized Swimming (2/5) - My wife loves this. I think it's OK for like a minute. But it goes on forever. It's like an entire mockumentary. In my sleep-deprived post-Blogathon state, this is ridiculously long.

Tom Brady | Sexual Harassment and You (1/5) - TV (un)Funhouse.

John Belushi | Donuts (2/5) - I thought we were ending with Barkley's Scared Straight and we got this instead.

a few of notes about the weekend...
First of all, I was thrilled to see Tennessee upset #1 Kansas after dismissing Tyler Smith and playing without the other three players who remain suspended. The fact that players who were not thought to be significant to the team in the beginning of the season are now stepping up and becoming an integral part of the team's success is a wonderful story. Again, as a teacher, this is a great lesson that I can point to and show kids that by staying out of trouble and being in the right place at the right time, you'll usually get your chance.
My favorite quote after the game was when Coach Bruce Pearl said, "McBee's shot was worth how many hours in the gym? When other kids were doing everything else, you could see McBee in the gym practicing all night long. It paid off — the beautiful thing about sports."
What a jab at his hoodlum players (and ex-player)! When other kids were doing everything else! Like, you know, drugs, guns, etc. I'm pretty happy about what's going on at Tennessee following this incident so far.

Second, I'd like to welcome all the people who found our site the past couple of days by searching for Charles Barkley Saturday Night Live skits! Please feel free to stick around and join in the conversations here. I mean, besides Scared Straight and maybe Reel Quotes or Inside the NBA, I wouldn't really be so worried about looking for all those videos anyway. The Ski Retreat and Racist MacGruber, for example, were pretty awful. So instead of searching for SNL clips, I suggest helping us get ready for our upcoming Blogathon! Comments are always welcome.

Finally, I think we had a great Sunday. The Patriots were embarrassed on their home field. Wedge returned after a few weeks off. And then the Cardinals won a great game in the battle to see who gets to come to the Superdome and lose!

Charles Barkley SNL: Overall
This was OK. An average SNL following two average NFL playoff games. (Hopefully we'll have a better NFL Sunday?)
I feel like we kind of got less of Barkley than we usually get from other hosts as far as screen time goes. He wasn't in Weekend Update at all and he was left out of a couple of the digital things. Why couldn't Alicia Keys make a booty call to Charles Barkley? It would've been different obviously, but I'm sure the writers could've done something with that.
Also, Wedge brought up a good point. There should've been a skit about a company's pick-up basketball team with Barkley. This easily could've replaced the awful company retreat sketch.
Missed opportunities or did the SNL writers just not know what to do with Charles Barkley?

Yeah, Barkley likes to gamble. We get it. What the hell happened? Was this skit so bad they just cut it off? I think with the NFL games going late, it messed up everyone's timing or something. These actors are usually five beers into the after party by now, I'm sure!

Finally, Kenan and Barkley together in good roles! Barkley as Kenan's dad. The MacIntoshes! This is pretty good. The finger in the ear was amazing.

Charles Barkley SNL: Haney Project
Barkley as himself! Is this all real golf footage?? That's hilarious. (We have footage of the one time I went golfing with Wedge and it looks about like that.) Overall not a funny skit though. Why is Barkley so stiff? He's normally laid back and funny. I think he's trying way too hard not to mess up. He said on the NFL pre-game show that he wasn't worried about messing up. I think he lied.

Barkley in his element here. World class bologna head was good. Overwhelming corpse disease! SNL has a habit of running some of the skits for too long, repeating the same jokes over and over. Thankfully, this one ended quick enough, making it more effective. I guess they needed the time for that 3rd MacGruber. Whatever works.

I don't get it. Is she Jessica Rabbit? Charles Barkley and Andy Samberg... how can it not be funny?
Barkley's pretty awful in this one. I think he knows how much the skit sucks and isn't even trying.
