Okay I'll play along in part. I'll do Daytona and the soccer. Non-championship, no points, no bragging rights - the main contest is between you three.

Daytona:
I think it'll be something like
01, 5, 10, 02, 60, 90, 7, 54, 8, 16, 57, 1, 2

So if I have to pick every third car:
01, 02, 7, 16, 2

Scott Pruett: 0:56.00
(but don't count my time when scoring yourselves!)

NFL Pro Bowl: I have no idea what this is but since it is an easy 50:50 choice so I'll say Carter.

It's late and I don't have time to research the Aussie Open. I could name the four I've heard of but those are probably the best four..

I definitely don't have time to research the UFC or college basketball not having heard of any of participants (honestly, nobody outside the USA has any idea why college sport is a big thing over there).

Footie:
I don't know if you know that British football teams have nicknames and mascots as well. The mascot is usually a guy in team kit wearing a badly-made oversized mascot head.

Liverpool (the Reds) v Bolton Wanderers (the Trotters): L
Liverpool lose points for a terrible nickname but gain points for a good mascot.

Southampton (the Saints) v Crystal Palace (Eagles): S
Bonus point to Palace for being an equal opportunities mascot employer?

Inter Milan v Torino: I

I don't know any of these:
Pachuca v Querataro: P
Guimaraes vs. Gil Vicente: Gu.
Zulte-Waragem vs. KVC Westerlo: KVC

Plymouth Argyle ('the Pilgrims') vs. Morecambe ('the Shrimps'): PA

Another I don't know:
UNAM vs. Toluca: UNAM

Aston Villa vs. AFC Bournemouth (the Cherries): AV

Galatasaray vs. Caykur Rizespor: G (they got to the UEFA Cup before, they can be pretty good and I've never heard of the others)

Ahh that'll do :)

Wait, did you just avoid picking something due to lack of research?? We were picking based on soccer team names, mascots, and UFC nicknames!

Pat W said...

I avoided picking because it was nearly 2am and I wanted to go to bed :)

Pat W said...

So I still don't have time to Google all those names but how about I pick them just based on how it sounds. And I probably should've done this while listening to you talk about it but its too late now, I need to get working on my draft after this.

Tennis:
Nadal, Warinka, Berdych, Nishikori, Lopez

UFC:
Gustafsson (I imagine he's some huge Norwegian)
Henderson
Bader
Corassani
Tumenov
Aliev
Amirkhani because his whole name is like the boxer, Amir Khan
Nedkov
Christodolou. There are racing drivers with that name.
Redmond
Pesta
Beal

Basketball:
Kansas
NC
Missouri
TCU
WM
Georgetown
MS
Miami
UCLA
Iowa
Oklahoma
LSU
Florida
Michigan
Memphis
Alabama
San Diego
Arizona
Indiana
Duke
New York (I've heard of the Knicks!)
Detroit (I'll go with the car thing)
Philadelphia
Brooklyn
Washington
Miami

That was genuinely 'look at the names and take a stab at one'.

Uh, oh, Mike. The Delta WIng (#0) and the #2 ESM cars just confirmed their retirements...

Note: the 6-hour mark of the race had the top-3 as #01, #02 and #60.
