Although our Vermont Catamounts have started the year with a disappointing 0-11 record, it is definitely not due to lack of effort or results from centerfielder Mark Micowski. The sophomore from Haddam, CT, is currently hitting .409 (18-44) with 10 runs, 6 stolen bases, and a .469 OBP.
In our first Catamount player feature, we'll attempt to get to know Mark a little better. Here are some interesting notes from his bio:
- was named to the America East All-Rookie Team as a freshman
- was second in the America East in steals last season and hit .289 in conference games
- named to the Connecticut High School Coaches Assn., New Haven Register and Hartford Courant all-state teams in 2007
- played for the Sanford Mainers and the Manchester Silkworms in the NECBL in the summer of 2008 (interesting article here)
Hopefully we'll have some good news to share about Mark's season over the next couple of months.
And remember, Mark and all of his teammates will need to find somewhere else to play baseball next year, as Vermont will no longer field a baseball team. However, check out this great article to see that somehow the university has money to give to everyone else.
